How a Typical Wireless UForms App Works
As can be seen below, the image is uploaded onto the server from anywhere through a PC browser interface.
The text for the page is also uploaded to the server and stored in a database along with the path to the correct image.
The wireless device can then request that particular page via a hypertext link passing only an ID number as a parameter to the server.
The database is accessed using the ID passed to obtain the correct record containing the text and image path.
The HTTP HEADER sent by the wireless device browser is captured and the screen size of the device is obtained using this information.
The screen width information just obtained for that phone is fed to UForms Server along with the ID that was originally passed
to the server from the device browser.
|
UForms produces an image from the Master Image in the specified format with a width
specified by the Phone Sizing database while constraining proportions.
Image and text are then delivered to the phone by HTTP in the normal manner resulting in an image in the format specified and width
exactly matching the usable width of the client device screen. No bandwidth is wasted due to oversized unusable images and
no tiny postage stamp size images are displayed on larger screen devices. And - only one Master Source Image is stored on the server.
This is the way the Wireless News Demo on this website works. Try this demo yourself.
Test it yourself... If you would like to try accessing a UForms image from your own cell phone then reference this URL from your wireless device.
The images will be delivered sized to your exact wireless screen size.
